Giuseppe Verdi wrote to his friend: "Copying the true may be a good thing, but inventing the true is better, much better".
All the characters portrayed in his operas correspond to this image of truth, then as now. Although in 2013 we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of this great composer, the emotions of his gigantic works do not let us go, which continue to be portrayed as vividly today as if we were with him in his time.
He was very committed to his country. As early as 1842, the chorus "Va penserio" from the opera Nabucco became the inofficial anthem of Italy. In 1874, Giuseppe Verdi was appointed Senator of Italy.
In his music, Giuseppe Verdi ingeniously shows us great love and tragedy at the same time in portrayals such as Violetta Valery from La traviata, Aida or Rigoletto. His works exude great passion and lyricism, but also the joy of humour and wit. All of this finds its expression during this wonderful concert.
In the programme we hear the most beloved and at the same time most famous fragments of his opera performances all over the world, such as La Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida. Il trovatore, Nabucco, Vespri siciliani ...
The world-famous arias, duets and ensembles, plus the enchanting choruses with the famous Va pensiero from the opera Nabucco and the Triumphal March from Aida in harmony with the scenography, the fantastic costumes and the original choreography form a whole in an unforgettable spectacle. The GIUSEPPE VERDI GALA is a European production: the orchestra and choir of OPERA POLSKA - founded in 1989 by Maestro Marek Tracz in cooperation with Wroclaw Television - is composed of the best musicians and singers from the great opera houses of Poland and other countries.
What would the music world be without the operas La Traviata or Aida? No Italian composer has left such a rich musical legacy as Giuseppe Verdi!
