HOLST: THE PLANETSMario Venzago

  • 21. Juni 2019, ab 19:30 Uhr
  • 15. Symphoniekonzert mit dem Berner Symphonieorchester

A space odyssey with stations on Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn – the last concert of the season takes us on a cruise through the solar system: Gustav Holst's "The Planets" written during the First World War, is the symphonic epitome of occupancy and sonority. Extremely diverse and multifarious, the orchestral suite sets the template for the soundtracks of many space film classics; the theme tune of Star Wars could almost pass as having been written by Holst. Enter the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's sinfonia concertante where oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn engage in a musical competition. This concert marks the end of the two-year exile of Bern Symphony Orchestra from the Kursaal Bern. Hence our decision to add a festive ball to the event. The BSO dance orchestra that has proved a hit elsewhere, will provide the music - this will be a beautiful farewell.
