Giuseppe Verdi wrote to his friend: "To copy the truth can be a good thing, but to invent the truth is better, much better."
All the persons in his operas correspond to this version of the truth, both then and now. Although we celebrated this great composer on the occasion of his 200th birthday in 2013, the emotions of his gigantic works still don't release us, they are just as full of life today as they would have been during his lifetime.
He was passionate about his country. In 1842, the "Va penserio" chorus from the opera Nabucco became the unofficial hymn of Italy.
In 1874, Giuseppe Verdi was appointed an Italian senator. Giuseppe Verdi portrays in a genial way great love and tragedy through his music, for example through Violetta Valery in La traviata, Aida or Rigoletto. His works emanate passion and lyricism while finding joy in humour and jokes. All these influences are in evidence during this wonderful concert.
We will hear the most popular and famous fragments of his operas, including La traviata, Rigoletto, Aida, Il trovatore, Nabucco, Vespri siciliani ….
The world famous arias, duets and ensembles, plus the magical choruses from the famous Va pensiero from the opera Nabucco and the triumphal march from Aida in perfect harmony with the scenography, fantastic costumes and original choreography make for an unforgettable spectacle.
The GIUSEPPE VERDI GALA is a European production: the OPERA POLSKA orchestra and choir – founded in 1989 by Maestro Marek Tracz in cooperation with Wroclaw television – comprises the best musicians and singers of the big opera houses in Poland and other countries.
Where would the music world be were it not for such operas as La traviata or Aida? No Italian composer has bequeathed such a rich musical legacy as Giuseppe Verdi!
